9. SPECIAL OPERATIVE TECHNIQUE DEVELOPED AT THE DEPARTMENT:

  1. Distal Para vertebral Anaesthesia 

  2. Anaesthesia in dogs

  3. Anaesthesia in rabbits

Surgical Techniques

  1. Abdominal approach through 12th intercostal space with resection of 12th rib (4-5cm below the level of vertebral articulation of the rib) provided better exposure for myotomy of gastro esophageal region in dogs.

  2. Diaphragmatic pedicle graft prepared with out opening into the thoracic cavity except at the mediastinum was found satisfactory for patch grafting at the gastro-oesophageal region.

  3. Closed reduction combined with extra articular stabilization using steinmann pin was successful for the treatment of hip dislocation in calves. 

  4. Gum bandage (consisting of black gram powder, rock salt, papadakaram water, egg white and lime juice) was effective for immobilization of fracture of metacarpus in calves as a substitute for plaster of paris cast.

  5. Chrome/Glutaraldehyde processed aortic graft were found satisfactory for oesophagoplasty in dogs.

  6. Glutaraldehyde processed canine collagen sheet and diacetyl processed fish collagen sheet were found satisfactory as a biological graft for cystoplasty in dogs.

  7. Use of PVC Splint as an external immobilizing device for management of long bone fractures (Radius, ulna & tibia) was found satisfactory in dogs.

  8. Epidurography using Iohexol at the lumbosacral region was found useful in diagnosing spinal lesions in canine patients suffering from posterior paralysis
